What is the SWF (Shockwave Flash) file?

SWF is an Adobe Flash file format used for multimedia, vector graphics and ActionScript, it is a Shockwave Flash Movie file that can hold interactive text and graphics. It is created with Adobe Flash and can be played by Flash Player or with a web browser that has the Flash plugin installed (Adobe has officially discontinued Flash, meaning it's no longer being developed or supported). The .swf extension stands for Small Web Format and the file format was designed to deliver graphics and animations over the Internet.
