This online protractor is transparent and allows you to easily measure the angle of any object nearby. It’s also designed to help you measure angles within images—simply take a photo, upload it, and drag the protractor’s center point to the vertex of the angle. Our virtual tool is highly accurate and offers convenient features like zooming in, zooming out, rotating, and repositioning for precise measurements.
How to use this online protractor?
Measure the angle of any physical object straight from your screen.
To reposition the protractor, simply click and drag its center point.
Adjust the protractor’s size by increasing or decreasing its radius.
Rotate the protractor freely, just as you would with a physical one.
Click on the area outside the protractor’s edge to place a pushpin.
Once two pushpins are set, the angle between them will be displayed in degrees.
Remove a pushpin with a double-click, or drag it to a new location.
All these operations can also be performed using the buttons in the control panel.
Set an image as the background—zoom, pan, and measure angles directly over it.
Easily add a picture to the background by dragging and dropping it.
Download and share your work at no cost—it’s completely free.
Mobile browsers don’t support drag and drop; use the provided buttons instead.
For a more spacious view, switch to full-screen mode by pressing F11.
How to Use a Protractor?
To measure an angle, first, place the protractor's midpoint (also called the origin or center mark) directly over the vertex—the corner point—of the angle. Align one side of the angle with the baseline of the protractor, which runs from the midpoint to the zero mark on the scale. Then, follow the other side of the angle up to the degree markings on the curved edge of the protractor. The number it intersects is the measure of the angle in degrees.
Most protractors have two scales—one reading clockwise and the other counter-clockwise—so be sure to use the correct one depending on which direction your angle opens.
With this digital protractor, you can enhance this process: upload an image, position the virtual protractor over the angle, and use tools to zoom, rotate, and place reference points (like pushpins) to measure with even greater accuracy. Simply drag to adjust position and size, and double-click to remove markers as needed.
