Grade Point Average Calculator (GPA Calculator) is a useful tool that helps students determine their average grade points based on their scores and the credit hours of each course. It provides a weighted average as the final GPA.

How GPA is Calculated?

To calculate the GPA, each letter grade (such as A, B, C) is assigned a corresponding grade point (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.). The grade point for each course is then multiplied by the number of credit hours for that course. This gives the total quality points earned for the course. The calculator sums up all the quality points from each course and divides them by the total number of credit hours attempted. The result is the final GPA.

For example:

  • If a student earns an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course, the quality points are 4.0 × 3 = 12.

  • If the student also earns a B (3.0) in another 4-credit course, the quality points are 3.0 × 4 = 12.

  • Total quality points = 12 + 12 = 24

  • Total credit hours = 3 + 4 = 7

  • GPA = 24 ÷ 7 ≈ 3.43
